SOLD OUT
A rare opportunity is coming to tour the privately owned Little Traverse Lighthouse this October with the Harbor Springs Area Historical Society. Constructed in 1884, the lighthouse operated until 1963 when it was decommissioned and returned to the ownership of the Harbor Point Association. With the generous permission of the Harbor Point Association, the Historical Society will host a public tour of the lighthouse on Saturday, October 14, 2017. Lighthouse tours are by reservation only and spaces are limited. Each docent-guided tour lasts for approximately an hour and includes a trip into the tower to see the fourth-order Fresnel lens and enjoy a stunning view of Little Traverse Bay. Outside on the grounds visitors can explore the original fog signal building and replica oil house. The interior of the lighthouse has been beautifully restored and includes original plans of the building as well as rare photographs of local maritime activity and social life in the Victorian era. Tours run in half-hour increments throughout the day on Saturday and tickets are $40 per person; tickets are non-refundable. Each ticket also includes free admission to the Harbor Springs History Museum and discounted meal offerings at local restaurants. To reserve your spot please call the Historical Society at (231) 526-9771 or fill out a reservation form online at www.HarborSpringsHistory.org.
